pta funds in action

Are you wondering how the PTA spends the money that is raised by our generous community at our biggest fundraising event, the Jogathon?

If you want to know the details, check out our itemized budget on the Treasury page.  This document is approved by our membership at the beginning of the year and is reviewed at every PTA meeting and updated every month against our actual spending.

March 2024 PTA FUNDS IN ACTION UPDATES!

After the success of our 2023 Jogathon, we put out a survey to accept ideas for PTA Project spending.  Here are the results.

Feasible/Likely: Looking to Get Accomplished this School Year

  • Kiln: We purchased a new one with Renovation, but with 729 students, it is in constant use by the 2 teachers and there is often a backlog.  (estimated $10,000-$12,000)
  • Lower Basketball Hoops: Need to know how much and decide one or two
  • Mulch distribution
  • Soccer Goals - still looking at portable options to create a field for recess.  There’s not a good location for a permanent goal.
  • Recess Equipment Will purchase replacements 2 or 3 times per year
  • Swank Movie License Streaming ($1380) For streaming movies school-wide

Not-Feasible or Needs to be Further Researched or Tabled for Future

  • Secure fencing: around school grounds that prevents entry from unauthorized visitors / makes outside school grounds just as secure as building. (Previously assessed by FCPS/county and meets requirements, not feasible based on our understanding. Will gather additional information).
  • Sunshades: for the playgrounds, wall ball area or Gaga ball area (Not feasible due to FCPS Height Guidelines and Gaga Ball is prohibited)

  • Rain awning: over kiss and ride walk (Good idea but would involve FCPS Design + Construction, PTA provides Waynewood Umbrellas for staff who work KnR)

  • Replace the wood chips on the playground with a soft rubber material.  (FCPS determines this material, guidelines, and maintains it.  The PTA can support the school grounds and the courtyard by purchasing mulch and organizing volunteers to spread it)

  • Vent cleaning/air scrubbers or installing top of the line air purifiers throughout the school, including the cafeteria and common meeting places to cut down the amount of illness transmitted throughout the school (estimated $20,000-$50,000) (Many common areas in the school already have air cleaners)

  • Noise reduction: (e.g. acoustic panels) in the cafeteria  (We do have acoustic panels in the cafeteria)

  • Trees for shaded play areas adjacent to the playground (We just need to further research this)

Enrichment / Academic Support

  • Math/Stem enrichment: e.g., girls who code group  (Will share recommendation with Enrichment Committee to determine whether academic clubs should be included in the budget for next year).
  • Classroom supplies:  Direct to support to classrooms for supplies / needs (Per our annual PTA budget, teachers/staff currently receive a $50 back to school stipend, and each grade level gets $1k of support. Next year we plan to increase both the amount and scope of our direct teacher/staff support stipends)
  • POG Lab Science equipment: elementary schools in the area may have full science labs  (See below for the ways we have outfitted the POG lab this year)
