SCHOOL INFORMATION & USEFUL LINKS
Emergency Care Forms Available Online
Parents can update their student’s emergency care information online using weCare@school (weCare) which is now linked within SIS ParentVUE.
Learn more about weCare and ParentVUE here.
Bell Schedule
School officially begins at 9:15, and students should be seated in their classrooms at that time. A staggered dismissal begins at 3:45, to ensure all students are dismissed from the building by 4:00. We may need to adjust the staggered dismissal time as we go, depending on how long dismissal is taking each day. Kindergarteners are always dismissed first to ensure there is less traffic in the hallways as they learn to navigate the building. We may adjust these times in the first few weeks as we work on the best way to safely dismiss our students.
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and lunch menus can be accessed online at http://fcps.nutrislice.com/ .
Breakfast and lunch will be free for all students. Students will go through the lunch line to make their selections for lunch. Please note that the only a la carte options available this year will be bottles of water, milk, or an additional entrée. There will not be cookies or popcorn available for purchase at the start of the school year. We will not be able to have parents and guardians join their children for lunch at the beginning of the year due to the limited space in the cafeteria, and the need to space students to the greatest extent possible.
School Arrival and Dismissal
If possible, please try to keep your child’s arrival and dismissal routine the same each day.
Bus Riders
Bus routes will be posted in SIS ParentVue by the Transportation Office.
Please note that Kindergarten bus riders must be met by an adult in the afternoon at the bus stop. Kindergarten students will not be allowed to exit the bus without an adult to meet them. If your kindergarten child is a bus rider, they will have a piece of yellow tape placed on their backpack strap to let everyone know that they are in kindergarten and need to be met by an adult. Please do not remove this tape, as we use this as a safety precaution.
Please keep in mind that the buses are often late to drop students off in the afternoons during the first week of school as drivers adjust to the routes and traffic patterns. As a late school, we are the last bus run of the day, and delays with earlier bus runs can have a big impact on our buses.
After the first week of school, you will be notified if the buses are running late for any reason through the Here Comes the Bus system.
All staff and students riding a bus will be required to wear a mask. For more information about bus transportation, including how to access the Bus Delay Notification System, visit the Transportation page.
Kiss-and-Ride Procedures
We will continue to use the same system for Kiss-and-Ride for the 2023-2024 school year. Kiss-and-Ride will be through the parking lot area. Please see the image below for more details. Kiss and Ride will begin promptly at 8:55 a.m. Please do not drop students off before 8:55 a.m. Please note the following important procedures:
- You will be given a sign with your children’s name. Please post in the window when you come through Kiss and Ride for dismissal so that we can have your child(ren) ready to go!
- There is absolutely NO PASSING in the Kiss and Ride line. Please do not go around other cars. This creates a major safety concern.
- Students should only exit the car on the curb side of the kiss and ride area. Please DO NOT let your child out of the driver’s side. This creates a hazard, as children must then pass in front of cars. Please adjust your child’s seating arrangements so that it is easy for your child to enter/exit on the passenger side.
- Parents should stay in the car at all times. Staff members will assist your child if needed.
- We ask that you do not use cell phones while in the Kiss and Ride line to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Walkers
Walkers may now enter or exit the building from Door 1 (main entrance), Door 3 (side of school), or Door 8 (playground). Walkers at Door 1 will easily be able to access the crossing guard to ensure safe passage across Waynewood Blvd. If your child needs to cross Waynewood Blvd on their way to or from school, please have them use Door 1.
In the morning, walkers should wait outside Door 1, Door 3, or Door 8 until the bell rings at 9:05. In cases of extreme weather, walkers will be allowed in the building at Door 1 starting at 8:55am and will be directed by a staff member to the cafeteria to wait for the bell. If you plan to change the door that your child is currently using to enter or exit the building, please notify your child’s teacher in writing. Walkers from Potomac Lane should continue to use the sidewalk to get to Door 8. The playground is closed for students during arrival. Students entering through Door 8 should use the sidewalk, instead of walking through the playground/mulch area.
Visiting Waynewood
Please note that as part of our safety plan, every time that you come to school to volunteer or pick up your child, you are required to show an ID. Your ID will also be scanned into our computer system. This also applies to any adult that comes in our building that is not an FCPS employee. This is an FCPS policy and we are required by the Office of Safety and Security to enforce it. We appreciate your help with this, as we all have the safety of our students in mind.
Bus Stop Information
Symptom Checking
As you know from our layered prevention strategies, checking for symptoms and staying home when sick is something we all need to do. Students should check for symptoms every day before coming to school and stay home if they have symptoms or feel unwell. Please review this letter that explains the expectations for symptom checking and staying home when sick.
School Aged Child Care Program (SACC)
The School Age Child Care Program (SACC) will provide before and after school services beginning August 21, 2023. Enrollment is now open.
Additional information, including how to enroll, is available online.
Please note that Waynewood currently has a waiting list for the SACC program, but if you are interested in this program, you should add your name to the list now! Please note that this program is housed at Waynewood, but is run independently from the school.
Schoology
This year we will be using Schoology as our learning management system. Schoology was piloted in several schools last year and will be fully implemented in FCPS this year. Schoology was chosen for its ease of use, integration with Google, and mobile accessibility.
For more information on Schoology, please view these Video Snippets or visit the Schoology Page on the FCPS website. You will need a ParentVUE account to access and use Schoology this year.
Religious and Cultural Observances
The Fairfax County School Board voted to approve a calendar for the 2023-24 School Year that is designed to recognize, respect, and honor the plurality of religious and cultural observances in Fairfax County. The calendar ensures students will not have to make choices between honoring their cultural or religious beliefs and missing a test or school activity.
On the 15 observance days listed below, Waynewood ES will not schedule tests or quizzes. Tests and quizzes will be given before any of these days, so students are not expected to study on the observance day.
In addition, Waynewood will not schedule events including field trips, assemblies, or other special events on any of the 15 observance days.
The calendar recognizes 15 diverse religious and cultural observances including:
Eid al-Adha
