Running is Elementary

Running is Elementary is back for Spring 2026!
Waynewood students in grades K–6 are invited to participate in this fun, school-wide track program, which ends with an exciting track meet at West Potomac High School.

Program Overview

Open to all Waynewood students, grades K–6
Practices held weekly after school
Track meets hosted at West Potomac High School
Coached by members of the West Potomac Track & Field teams, including Waynewood alumni

Practice Schedule

Wednesdays | 4:00–5:00 PM
Location: Waynewood Elementary School fields

Grades K–6

Wednesday April 8th, April 15th, April 22nd, and April 29th (early release, but practice remains at 4:00pm-5:00pm)

Track Meet Dates

Location: West Potomac High School Track

Grades K–2: Tuesday, May 6
Grades 3–6: Tuesday, May 11

Families are responsible for transporting students to and from West Potomac High School for the track meets.

Each athlete may participate in up to three running events (including relays) and one field event. Field event participation may be limited depending on the number of participants per grade. A detailed event schedule will be shared prior to the meet.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are essential to the success of Running is Elementary. Help is needed during practices, race-day preparation, and at the track meets.

Concessions

Concessions will be available at the track meets through West Potomac High School. Proceeds benefit the West Potomac Track Team and the West Potomac Hall of Fame Committee.
